Grand Hyatt Resort Tour in Playa del Carmen by Barefoot Bride Sophia Wilder

When considering venues for our 2026 wedding, my fiance and I were interested in exploring both resorts and off-resort sites. One of the reasons we were interested in a resort wedding was the ease of accessibility that it would provide to our guests. And even though we ultimately decided to go with an off-resort venue, these resort tours came in handy when deciding on a location for our room block to provide an experience our guests will love. Because of this, we visited Playa del Carmen in 2024 and decided to tour multiple resorts. The Grand Hyatt being one of our absolute favorites.

Like all resorts in Playa del Carmen, the Grand Hyatt is secure. We contacted the resort for a resort tour appointment and needed to provide our information and images prior to going. Once there, we were kindly greeted at the front entrance, allowed access, and proceeded to walk up to the most stunning entry way we’ve ever seen. Immediately greeted by a stunning stair-like waterfall feature that was a beautifully modern interpretation of culturally significant structures, we made our way to the front desk. And if we thought the beauty of the entry way was out of this world, the inside of this resort absolutely blew us away.

When we made it to the front desk, we were greeted with the most incredible customer service and then promptly given a tour. Our guide was incredible and showed us the amazing options for wedding venues throughout the resort. My fiance loved the option to have the ceremony over the infinity pool and I was very impressed by the courtyard option. The resort also has a great package where they can set up a welcome party for guests prior to the wedding and we were very enticed by that too.

Our guide also showed us the amenities that included the most breathtaking spa we’ve ever seen. Delicious restaurant options, and the incredibly clean and modern rooms. We learned that this resort was kid friendly, too. Truly this resort was truly something special and in other circumstances, we likely would have chosen it as a place for our guests to stay.

Ultimately, our decision came down to privacy and accessibility. With the infinity pool venue being our favorite, it just didn’t give us the intimate setting that we desired. The resort itself and the structure of it did not ladder up to some of the others we toured in ease or relaxation for our older guests. And lastly, there are multiple all-inclusive/non all-inclusive tiers at this resort. We learned that all guests would be limited to choosing either the all-inclusive option or the non-all inclusive option and that we couldn’t have a mix of guests opting for the option that suited their specific needs if they had a different preference than what we decided for the group.

Even though we ultimately didn’t select this resort for the wedding itself and our guests’ stay, we had such an incredible experience touring it. My fiance and I are looking forward to going back and staying here ourselves, as it was certainly a resort we fell in love with.
