Punta Mita, Mexico
We are so excited to spend an extended weekend with you celebrating our love in Punta Mita!
Our Love Story
Our Love Story
If you’re on this page you are our closest friends and family and likely already know our story. If you haven’t heard the story of how we met it’s one Bernard loves to tell so we won’t steal his thunder by telling it here…ask him. But it wasn’t long after that day that we both realized the other would be great to ‘do life’ with. We agree that neither of us realized how great it would really be!
From our first conversation it was clear we shared a passion for travel and life experiences. Our compatibility in this regard could not be more perfectly aligned…maybe because I love playing travel agent and Bernard thinks I’m pretty good at it so I get to plan our dream trips and Bernard is perfectly happy to follow me around “like a little duckling” as he says. Our love of travel alone has already taken us to so many incredible places during our time together, but our shared hobbies have become a year round opportunity for us to enjoy each other and challenge ourselves and one another. Bernard was a snowboarder and I was a skier when we met. Once upon a time I was always the one waiting for him at the bottom of the mountain. Now, I have a love/hate relationship with the fact that he usually wins…not that it’s a race. We love checking out new snow destinations each year and always make at least a few trips to our favorite home away from home, Mammoth.
You probably also know that our other favorite hobby is scuba diving…because most of you think we’re crazy for being perfectly comfortable surrounded by sharks. Diving was a hobby I fell in love with many years prior but never had the dive buddy to pursue it seriously. Bernard was originally a reluctant participant because of past experiences in the Coast Guard, but after we took an open water certification course in Catalina, Bernard insisted we go all in…all our own gear, advanced open water certified, rescue certified, liveaboard dive boats…that was not what I had in mind…but he was open to my ideas, so it seemed necessary that I be equally open to his. The friends we have made and other, under sea world, we have come to know, is undoubtably worth the effort!
So what you may not know about our story is why we brought you here, to Punta Mita. Aside from it being a beautiful beach destination that is reasonably easy to reach for those most dear to us, we have shared great memories here. During Covid when it wasn’t easy to go anywhere let alone out of the country, we went where the world would allow. We had to go to the hospital and Covid test upon arrival and we knew we were risking possible quarantine for an undetermined period of time, but that was a minor inconvenience for fulfilling our wanderlust ways. We spent our days panga fishing, when on the way out Bernard proclaimed, “I’m going to catch a mahi mahi’ to which I asked “how big”, Bernard gestured about four feet. We consistently caught fish throughout the day but no mahi. Until we were trolling back at the end of the day and if you know the sound, you know the sound…it was a mahi, about four feet. (Check it out in our photos section). We went whale watching and saw them right off the bow of our panga and then so many more enjoying the sunset from our Airbnb balcony. It was magical and we were hooked. So much so that we went back four months later.
Four months later brought a stand up paddle board surfing adventure that left Bernard with sea urchin spines in his foot, scuba diving in our worst conditions to date that I would have aborted mission had Bernard not been willing to go, and getting totally skunked on fishing. But that’s not at all to say we didn’t have an equally magical time. In the words of one of their favorite people, and Courtney’s brother-in-law, Clark, sometimes it’s better to have a good story than to have a good time.
We love the opportunity for relaxation and adventure that Punta Mita offers. We hope you too will discover some of the magic that we have enjoyed here and create your own lasting memories in this gem on the map in a world that’s made for us to explore.
