Harnessing Pinterest to Craft Your Vision by Barefoot bride Sherry W.
As a gal who doesn’t have much of an eye for aesthetics or interior design, one of the most difficult parts of planning a wedding was deciding on a vision. What style or mood do I want? What style and moods are even out there? What should my wedding colors be? Even if I did have wedding colors, how would I showcase them… ?
Luckily, Pinterest has a million and one examples of everything wedding-related you could ever want. I wouldn’t be surprised if the majority of Pinterest boards are dedicated to weddings… but perhaps I’m biased. Pinterest was a life-saver, as I could type in the most generic search criteria, scroll infinitely, and save any and all pins that catch my eye. Here are examples of some of the boards I personally used>
Beauty Basics: Hair, Makeup, and Nails
I created a board dedicated to bridal beauty looks. I pinned different inspirations for romantic up-dos as well as half-up, half down hairstyles, natural makeup styles for Asian brides, and different types of French tip and other bridal nails.
Bridal Attire and Accessories
Another board showcased stunning wedding dresses, rings, jewelry, shoes, and accessories. This helped me narrow down my preferences and made shopping for my bridal look much more focused and enjoyable.
Floral Arrangements
Pinterest was incredibly helpful in defining our wedding's floral style. I pinned images of various arrangements, color schemes, and flower types, which proved invaluable when meeting with our florist. This helped me decide on the types of flowers, colors of flowers, shapes of centerpieces and arrangements, and much more.
Ceremony Decor
I pinned images of arches, aisle decorations, ground arrangements, and chair embellishments, such as sashes. This was even helpful at a brainstorming stage, as Pinterest showed me all the different ways I could decorate an aisle (loose petals on the ground, arrangements lining the aisle, rattan walkways, etc).
Wedding Cake
I knew I wanted purely green foliage on my cake to emulate a “jungle-inspired” look, so this gave me ideas on the variety of tropical foliage that would look good on the cake.
Wedding Photography
I created a board filled with inspiring wedding photos, showcasing different venues, poses, and overall vibes. This helped me articulate to our photographer what kind of images we wanted to capture on our big day, but still leaving it up to the photographer’s style.
Flat Lay
A board dedicated to flat lay photography helped me plan out the items I wanted to include in these detail shots, from invitation suites to jewelry and sentimental trinkets.
Table Settings
Finally, a board dedicated to table settings helped me choose everything from charger plates to place cards, napkin folds, and utensil arrangements.
Using Pinterest to organize my wedding inspiration not only helped me refine my vision, but also made communicating with vendors much easier. I would have two types of boards: one that would be a dump of everything that I even vaguely piqued my interest, and one that would be the final vision I shared with my vendors. By sharing my boards, I could ensure everyone involved in the wedding planning process was on the same page.
