Dreams Playa Mujeres: The Best Destination Wedding Resort That Feels Like a Splurge Without Breaking the Bank by Sharon
Elegant, Family-Friendly, and Packed with Value
Dreams Playa Mujeres hits that sweet spot for destination weddings: elevated without being ultra-luxury, big without being overwhelming, and great bang for your guests’ buck.
The vibe is clean, modern, and well-groomed: white stone buildings, open walkways, tropical greens, and pops of turquoise throughout the resort. It’s not brand new (opened in 2016), but it’s well-kept and stylish. The layout gives your group space to spread out, with pools, restaurants, and activities that appeal to both adults and kids.
The food? Excellent. Between the buffet, French, Italian, Japanese, and grill options, not to mention café snacks and poolside bites, there’s plenty of variety to please your guests. A solid A in terms of quality, taste, and variety.
The service is consistent and friendly and if you’re in the Preferred Club, you’ll get a bit of extra attention with a dedicated concierge and access to the rooftop pool and exclusive restaurant.
The beach is soft and wide and given the location in Playa Mujeres, there’s a natural barrier (Isla Mujeres) leading to less sargassum on the beach. There is a lazy river for guests staying in the Preferred Club rooms, a waterpark with waterslides, a dolphin habitat that’s a real beach setting within the ocean offering the dolphins a natural environment, and multiple pools to keep guests entertained, including 2 infinity pools with ocean views and a children’s pool.
Rooms are spacious and modern. Swim-out suites are always a hit with wedding guests, but the biggest perk is that there are large family suites available for those traveling with little ones. And everyone 18+ has access to everything Secrets Playa Mujeres has to offer next door. Perfect for those groups that need a family-friendly option, but want adults only sections, too.
Wedding Venues That Feel Custom to You
Dreams Playa Mujeres offers a great range of venues, whether you want beachfront elegance, rooftop views, or a lush garden setting, but my favorite is the over water option and the privacy that it affords.
If the beach is your vibe, there’s the Beach venue, a completely blank slate for you to choose anything you’d like for your altar, or the Wedding Gazebo, a beautiful wooden gazebo on the beach with a wooden walkway and mangroves in the background, giving you that perfect tropical, beachy vibe. The Central Garden is a good option for larger groups that don’t want to be in the sand, a beautiful circular neutral floor and pathway in a green, grassy area that’s spacious and tropical.
But the location that takes the cake? The Over the Water location with the acrylic walkway with a minimum requirement of 50 or 70 guests (depending on day of the week) with a beautiful backdrop of the ocean.
Over the Water
Reserve the Paramount Suite and you can have your wedding (up to 60 guests) in complete privacy. For a larger group or a completely private Over the Water venue, opt for the Presidential Suite Ocean Front (up to 80 guests).
(L-R): Over the Water, Paramount Suite & Presidential Suite Ocean Front
The Cove Terrace is a dreamy location for cocktail and/or reception, surrounded by beautiful stone tiles and a starry sky. The Mermaid Terrace is a great option that offers a bit of privacy due to the location and unlikeliness that people will need to walk through or too close by. The Pool Terrace is great and definitely gives tropical resort wedding vibes.
And if you reserved the Paramount or Presidential Suites, then the party can continue right there, in the privacy of your own suite. Other ceremony locations also available for cocktail and reception include the beach and Central Garden. There are some indoor options, like the Azure Veranda and Ballroom for those who prefer to party with air conditioning.
(L-R): Cover Terrace, Mermaid Terrance, Pool Terrace, Azure Veranda
